Best Industrial Disributor Stocks To Own Right Now

Times are pretty tough across most of the emerging world, but seem especially difficult in BRIC superstar Brazil. Falling commodity prices and slowing growth coupled with political and social unrest have sent shares of Brazilian firms downwards since the beginning of the year. Overall, broad measures- like the benchmark iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (NYSE:EWZ) ave lost about 25% of their value since the beginning of the year.

As investors have focused on the short-term headwinds facing the emerging market leader, longer term values are beginning to show themselves. One of which could be in Brazil massive and growing consumer market. For investors, betting on Brazil buying could be one of the better bets over the longer term and now could be a great time to do just that.

Boom In Consumerism
The change in consumer behavior that is currently underway in Brazil can be compared to America's post-WWII period of the 1950s and 1960s. During this time, everything from durables, household products and personal care goods saw an increase in sales.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By WWW.DAILYFINANCE.COM]

CYNK Technology (CYNK), the mysterious over-the-counter stock that at one point broke a $6 billion market cap, dropped roughly 80 percent in its first trades after a Securities and Exchange Commission halt. The SEC halted CYNK for two weeks following a massive rise in the stock's value -- it had been worth only a few cents per share in June, but it jumped above $21 on July 10. The Belize-based CYNK Technology supposedly operates a social networking site, but filings indicate it only has one employee and virtually no assets. Experts told CNBC the week of the SEC halt that they expected CYNK to fall precipitously after reopening, and its first day of trading is proving those predictions correct. When it was halted, the stock was worth just less than $14 per share, and is now below $3 a share after briefly hovering around $5 earlier Friday morning. An OTC Markets spokeswoman told Reuters that CYNK's shares were not trading on its platform, but were occurring over the phone. Earlier this week Reuters reported that OTC's CEO did not expect CYNK to trade on its platform at all after reopening, as no brokerages would file the required paperwork for the stock to trade on their exchanges. An SEC spokesman said that the organization cannot comment on the status of a company after a suspension period ends, citing an online explanation of the process. That document notes that broker-dealers may not solicit investors to trade the previously suspended OTC stock until they satisfy several regulatory requirements. The SEC warned, however, that "unsolicited" trading may occur after a reopening -- as CYNK is now seeing -- but "even though such trading is allowed, it can be very risky for investors without current and reliable information about the company."

Last November, I announced my intention to create a portfolio of 10 companies that investors had effectively thrown away and given up on, in the hope of showing that deep-value investing, and contrarian thinking, can actually be a very successful investing method. Best Consumer Stocks To Buy For 2014

Retail banking refers to the division of a bank that deals directly with retail customers. Also known as consumer banking or personal banking, retail banking is the visible face of banking to the general public, with bank branches located in abundance in most major cities. Banks that focus purely on retail clientele are relatively few, and most retail banking is conducted by separate divisions of banks, large and small. Customer deposits garnered by retail banking represent an extremely important source of funding for most banks.

Corporate banking, also known as business banking, refers to the aspect of banking that deals with corporate customers. The term was originally used in the U.S. to distinguish it from investment banking, after the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 separated the two activities. While the Act was repealed in the 1990s, corporate banking and investment banking services have been offered for many years under the same umbrella by most banks in the U.S. and elsewhere. Corporate banking is a key profit center for most banks; however, as the biggest originator of customer loans, it is also the source of regular write-downs for loans that have soured.

Richard Levine/Alamy Vermont-based ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's has decided to keep the name of its new ice cream flavor, Hazed & Confused, according to Bloomberg. The company had considered a change in response to the complaint of a couple whose son, Harrison Kowiak, died in a fraternity hazing incident in 2008. The parents said that the name was insensitive and belittled a dangerous campus practice. Ben & Jerry's, which is owned by Unilever (UN), initially released the flavor in February 2014, reported Franchise Herald. The name is a reference to the phrase "dazed and confused," which is the name of a Led Zeppelin song and a 1993 coming-of-age move, according to Bloomberg. The ice cream contains chocolate and hazelnut, the latter being the source of the "hazed" part. Lianne and Brian Kowiak took notice in September and complained to the company. The website StopHazing.org urged its readers to send protests to Ben & Jerry's. The company said that it had only received a handful of comments, but would consider a name change in its October management meeting. Harrison Kowiak had a golf scholarship to Lenoir-Rhyne University. When a sophomore in 2008, he had pledged the Theta Chi fraternity, as the Tampa Bay Times reported. A lawsuit filed by the Kowiaks claimed that their 160-pound son and another boy had been put through a gauntlet line, where they were pushed, shoved, and tackled by fraternity members who weighed as much as 250 pounds and were on the school's football team.

At some point Kowiak could no longer stand. Instead of immediately calling 911, the lawsuit says, the fraternity brothers told him to get up and walk - which he did, until he collapsed. Finally, the brothers loaded him into one of their cars and drove them to Frye Regional Medical Center. Kowiak, the lawsuit says, suffered seizures along the way.

St. Jude Medical (NYSE: STJ  ) also saw sales decline 3% at a constant currency, even as the company managed to grow earnings by more than 5% by cutting costs.

There's no bigger name in health care than Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ  ) , and the company's justified its fame through a history of strong, stable performance. J&J did it again in the second quarter, as the company's adjusted earnings managed to top Wall Street's expectations, even as revenue came in a little short.

Top 5 Rising Stocks To Watch Right Now

LONDON -- The shares ofBAE Systems (LSE: BA  ) (NASDAQOTH: BAESY  ) advanced 3 pence to 378 pence this morning as investors studied the defense group's latest update and its 5.2% yield.

BAE said today that trading since the start of the year had been "consistent with management expectations" and confirmed underlying earnings per share were expected to grow "modestly" during 2013.

The FTSE 100 member added that underlying earnings per share could be increased by a further 3 pence should discussions concerning the Salam Typhoon program conclude satisfactorily.

The Salam Typhoon program concerns an order of 72 Eurofighter Typhoons for the Royal Saudi Air Force, the requirements of which were changed during 2011 and have since prompted protracted price negotiations.

BAE admitted today's forecast did not reflect the potential impact on the U.S. defense sector arising from any automatic cuts to the country's government spending.

However, the company did say it was awarded a 拢504 million contract from the U.S. Army during March to manage an ammunition plant for five years.

Brendan: Not a problem at all. What about the surprising amount of dollar-store companies that are public? You mention, in particular, Family Dollar, which is the lowest market cap out of all of those, as doing the best, an exceptional company. Why?

  • [By Rick Munarriz]

Dollar General (NYSE: DG  ) shares took a 9% hit the day it reported uninspiring quarterly results last week. The deep discounter lowered its guidance for the balance of the fiscal year. Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT  ) and Target (NYSE: TGT  ) disappointed investors last month, surprising the market with negative same-store sales for the period.

Top Valued Stocks To Watch For 2014

Less than six years ago, Citigroup (NYSE: C  ) took a $45 billion bailout as the government worked to prop up the unstable financial giant. In stark contrast, today's Citigroup is in turnaround mode as it's once again reporting billions in annual earnings. But here are ways beyond its common stock to invest in Citigroup, which is right for you? Well, it really depends on what type of investor you are.

Value investors
These investors are naturally attracted to Citigroup's common stock. Trading below book value, this bank already checks off one box on the value investor checklist. Making the value even better, Citigroup is also the only one of the four major U.S. banks to trade below tangible book value.

Normally, a company with these valuations would have to be losing money or have serious solvency concerns, but Citigroup has neither. Earnings are positive and continue to grow -- in fact, the bank trades at a single-digit forward price to earnings ratio. Citigroup is also adequately capitalized reporting a 10.5% Basel III Tier 1 capital ratio for the end of 2013 -- a level on par with more highly valued peers.

Advisors' Opinion:

Family Dollar (NYSE: FDO  ) reported sales growth even as earnings per share fell amid a tough operating environment and ongoing merger preparations. The company expects to close on a takeover offer proposed by Dollar Tree (NASDAQ: DLTR  ) within the next few quarters. The merger-related restructuring charges and fees hurt the company's bottom line, but earnings fell even after adding back those expenses. Here's what it could mean for shareholders.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Family Dollar (FDO) became a must-have after Carl Icahn announced a 9.4% stake in the bargain retailer–and so did competitors like Dollar General (DG) and Dollar Tree (DLTR).

    3. Dollar store drama and coffee surge: Shares in Dollar General (DG) are down more than 7% after CEO Rick Dreiling announced that he was retiring in 2015. Activist investor Carl Icahn has a 9.4% stake in Family Dollar (FDO), which many suspect he wants to merge with Dollar General. Family Dollar stock is down 2%. Related company Dollar Tree (DLTR) is slightly negative as well.

For example, Dollar General (NYSE: DG), the nation’s largest dollar-store chain with 11,100 locations, offered a weak profit outlook in the early part of the year after reporting weak fourth-quarter sales. And Dollar Tree (Nasdaq: DLTR), which operates about 5,000 locations, missed profit expectations for the holiday quarter in February. What has happened to the American consumer? Even McDonald sales were flat in April.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By WALLSTCHEATSHEET]

Caterpillar is a provider of construction and related industrial products and services during a time where countries around the world are seeing expansion. Shares of Caterpillar crossed above their 200 day moving average of $85.26, changing hands as high as $85.38 per share. The stock has remained neutral in recent months and is currently in a range. Over the last four-quarters, earnings and revenues have been decreasing which has left investors optimistic about the company. Relative to its peers and sector, Caterpillar has been a weak year-to-date performer. WAIT AND SEE what Caterpillar does in coming quarters.

  • [By Editor , ETFChannel.com]

A study of analyst recommendations at the major brokerages shows that Caterpillar (CAT) is the #23 broker pick, on average, out of the 30 stocks making up the Dow Jones Industrial Average, according to ETF Channel. Within the broader S&P 500, when components were ranked in terms of analyst favorites, CAT claims the #309 spot.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

    Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) , down 6%
Caterpillar has been the worst-performing stock in the Dow so far this year, as the heavy-equipment maker has faced new challenges on top of some of the problems it has had to deal with for a long time. On top of the sluggishness in the construction and infrastructure industries worldwide, the plunge in commodities like precious metals have crushed the mining sector, hurting prospects for Caterpillar's sales of mining equipment. With multiple reductions to its guidance and recent layoff announcements, Caterpillar could have further to fall before it hits bottom.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

For one day at least, this CAT is not a dog.

Caterpillar (CAT) has gained 2% to $86.22 today, its largest gain since in a month and the largest gain among the Dow components. The machinery manufacturer has dropped 11% during the past six months, however, as a slowdown in China and cost-cutting at mining companies have hit its shares.

    Bloomberg

Susquehanna’s Ted Grace offers reasons for optimism, even as he lowers his 12-month price target to $97 from $104:

CAT remains Positive rated with 15% upside to our $97 price target and upside-downside of 1.2-to-1 (which, like most of our machinery names, is admittedly shy of the 2-to-1 or better ratio we prefer). Despite our 2014-15 EPS being ~6% below consensus, we view our updated estimates as closer to buyside expectations while noting that consensus appears to embed a low tax rate that explains over half of the variance. While there remains plenty of uncertainty on 2014/15, particularly in mining, we believe CAT shares currently discount reasonable top-line expectations while recent meetings with mgmt suggest potential for structural cost savings that could drive better than expected margins/ incrementals. While difficult to identify discernible catalysts, if CAT’s framework for flat-to-better RI revenue growth in 2014 proves correct (admittedly not assumed in our estimates), this would almost certainly debunk the core of the bear thesis and be meaningfully positive for shares.

Investors waiting for the stock to actually, you know, rise can take comfort in Caterpillar’s $2.40 dividend per share and its more than $3 per share in buybacks in 2013, Grace says.

Caterpillar’s 2% gain has trumped the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s 0.04% rise, and United Technology’s (UTX) 0.1% drop, while competitor Deere (DE) has gained 1.9% to $83.22.

Only one big, new film will hit the box office this week, and it’s a monster–literally. That would be I, Frankenstein, the Aaron Eckhart film about a monster who battles the forces of evil. I, Frankenstein cost about $65 million to make, but the film about a monster made up of “a dozen used parts from eight different corpses” will be lucky if it makes $15 million this weekend.

Investors have created a monster of their own–the emerging markets, an amalgamation of various countries that have very little in common–and like the monster in the original Frankenstein, they’re coming for their creator. The iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (EEM) fell 3.9% to $38.24 this week–dragging down U.S. stocks with it. We were reminded of this in a recent report on the state of the foreclosure market published by data analytics firm CoreLogic (NYSE: CLGX  ) . At the same time, however, we were also reminded of how much further we still have to go before the crisis is fully and finally behind us. What follows, in turn, are the five most revealing numbers that CoreLogic uncovered in its report.

  • [By Reuters]

AP NEW YORK -- There were fewer U.S. foreclosures in July than a year ago, while properties in the foreclosure pipeline also fell as the housing market continued to improve, according to data from CoreLogic. There were 49,000 completed foreclosures last month, down from a 65,000 in July of last year, CoreLogic (CLGX) said Thursday. There were 53,000 foreclosures in June, down from an originally reported 55,000. Before the housing market's downturn in 2007, completed foreclosures averaged 21,000 a month between 2000 and 2006. Since the financial crisis began in September 2008, there have been about 4.5 million foreclosures. Foreclosures are completed when a home is either seized by the lender or sold at auction. During the past 18 months, the housing market has recovered its footing as prices and sales increased, and foreclosures slowed. A recent spike in borrowing costs, however, has slowed new mortgage applications and demand to refinance existing loans. If that persists, it could result in fewer foreclosure resales. "If demand is a little bit lower, it might slow down a bit the pace of decline in foreclosure inventories," said Mark Fleming, chief economist for CoreLogic. "But of all the housing types in demand, stressed assets are a hot commodity and are often bought by cash investors who are less sensitive to mortgage rates." There were about 949,000 homes in some stage of foreclosure, down from 1.4 million a year ago. That foreclosure inventory represented 2.4 percent of all mortgaged homes, down from 3.4 percent in July last year. The five states with the highest foreclosures in the year leading up to July were Florida, California, Michigan, Texas and Georgia, which together accounted for almost half of all foreclosures. Florida also had the highest percentage of homes sitting in foreclosure, followed by New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Maine.

    3. Focus on efficiency
A combination of factors plays a role in efficiently producing biodiesel. FutureFuel (NYSE: FF  ) , which owns an annual capacity of 59 million gallons to complement its niche chemical business, relies heavily on location. The company's two biorefineries don't have a nationwide infrastructure to aid in getting product to the market and are dependent on rail and barge access. Xylem (XYL) makes products for water collection and distribution. Xymox was a goth band from the Netherlands. What do they have in common, besides an X and a y at the beginning of their names? They demonstrate that anyone can be underestimated.

    Jeff Thomas

For Xymox, that came when their song “Imagination” off their third album hit the Billboard Hot 100. For Xylem, it might just be today, as its shares have jumped 13% to $32.45 following its surprisingly good earnings. Bloomberghas the details:

Xylem third-quarter earnings per share of 49 cents, excluding some items, topped the 35-cent estimate…Xylem raised its 2013 adjusted earnings per share forecast to $1.60 to $1.65 from $1.40 to $1.50. Analysts projected $1.37 on average.

Wedbush’s David Rose calls noted Xylem’s “impressive margin recovery.” He writes:

Operating margins before charges were 13.5% vs. 12.9% in the year-ago period and 380 bps above our estimate. Following a disappointing Q2 with substantially lowered guidance, XYL managed to see an impressive reversal in margin trends for its Water Infrastructure business, which experienced 15.5% adjusted operating margins versus our estimate for 11.8%. Margins for Applied Water were down YOY and below our estimate. Adjusted operating margins exclude special charges and realignment costs.

Xylem’s big day has also boosted other water-infrastructure stocks. Flowserve (FLS) has gained 1.2% to $70.59, Idex Corp. (IEX) has risen 0.5% to $68.69 and Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) has advanced 0.4% t0 $98.22.

Xylem Inc. (0.7%) (XYL)(XYL - $36.42 - NYSE) is a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and application of highly engineered technologies for the transportation, treatment, and testing of water. The company is expected to benefit from favorable long term fundamentals in the water industry, driven by scarcity, population growth, aging of the infrastructure, and the need to improve water quality. Further, with a large installed base of pumps and systems, the company is well positioned to increase aftermarket revenue, which currently represents roughly 40% of total revenues. Xylem's attractive business mix also generates strong cash flow, which is expected to support acquisitions, debt service, and dividend growth. Concerns regarding weakness in Europe and municipal spending levels in the U.S. remain, although we believe the long term fundamentals outweigh these concerns. I wouldn't exactly call it super enthusiastic guidance, but this quarter, when so few companies have anything good to say about their business for the fourth quarter, even Xylem's (XYL) tepid enthusiasm stands out.
