Hot Beverage Companies To Invest In Right Now

Fast-food chains are making a formidable attempt at adapting to shifting consumer tastes. For decades, a solid cheeseburger at a low price had been enough to drive the rapid expansion of the businesses throughout the United States and overseas, but now it appears that fast eaters want more. With new products such as a Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, and health-oriented flatbread sandwiches, The Wendy's Company (NASDAQ: WEN  ) is proving to be a formidable competitor to the long-reigning number one chain, McDonald's (NYSE: MCD  ) . The stock is feeling full as well, up more than 35%�in 12 months. The question now is, can the stock still move higher as management continues its renovation, or has this opportunity passed?

New menu items aren't the only signs of change at Wendy's, and certainly not the only elements that analysts predict will show big results come the company's earnings release next week.

Wendy's has taken substantial efforts to boost its comparable, and ultimately, bottom-line sales. The company�has cut unprofitable operations, such as breakfast service for certain franchises, while saving in areas like beverages -- where management recently negotiated more favorable contracts with two suppliers. Similar to McDonald's recent efforts to boost store sales (which include late night breakfasts, healthier choices), Wendy's has emphasized its value menu, while simultaneously pushing high-priced premium items, like the above-mentioned Pretzel Bacon Burger. Back�at headquarters, the company refinanced its debt at more favorable rates, resulting in increased full-year guidance.

The Company�� Packaged Beverages segment is principally a brand ownership, manufacturing and distribution business. In this segment, it primarily manufacture and distribute packaged beverages and other products, including its brands, third party owned brands and certain private label beverages, in the United States and Canada. Key NCB brands in this segment include Hawaiian Punch, Snapple, Mott's, Yoo-Hoo, Clamato, Deja Blue, AriZona, FIJI, Mistic, Nantucket Nectars, ReaLemon, Mr and Mrs T, Rose's and Country Time.     Like a waistline spreading from eating too many sweets, the labeling lawsuit trend keeps growing.�Dr Pepper Snapple Group (NYSE: DPS  ) is being sued because the plaintiff thought the antioxidants in its 7-Up berry-flavored drinks actually came from juice instead of the added vitamin E because the label showed pictures of fruit.�Energy drink maker Red Bull is being sued because it charges a premium for its caffeinated beverage that "gives you wings" even though it allegedly provides the same jolt as a lower-priced cup of coffee.

    Recently, Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE: BUD  ) introduced in the U.S. its Stella Artois Cidre brand of cider as a means of siphoning off wine drinkers but also trying to steal some of Boston Beer's thunder. According to GuestMetrics, hard cider sales soared 70% in the first quarter, and it was largely on the back of Angry Orchard. Notably, MillerCoors, the joint venture between SABMiller (NASDAQOTH: SBMRY  ) and Molson Coors (NYSE: TAP  ) , also acquired cider maker Crispin last year.

But the company sold more of its noncarbonated drinks worldwide, and its earnings matched expectations. The Atlanta-based company says global sales volume rose 2 percent. In its flagship North American market, soda volume slipped 1 percent as the company raised prices. Coca-Cola (KO), which also makes drinks including Sprite, Powerade and Dasani, has been under pressure to deliver stronger results, particularly back at home where Americans have been cutting back on soda for years. The company isn't alone in its struggles to boost soda sales. PepsiCo (PEP), which reports its earnings Thursday, has seen even steeper declines in its soda business despite stepped-up marketing, including sponsorship of the Super Bowl halftime show. Both companies sell a wide array of beverages, including sports drinks, bottled water and orange juice. But sodas remain a big part of their businesses, and they're scrambling to figure out ways to stop the declines. "Look, we have Coca-Cola, and we have another 500 brands. The key is to offer a wide variety of choices," CEO Muhtar Kent said in an interview on CNBC regarding the concerns about soda. To boost sales, the company plans slash costs and put the savings into marketing in the year ahead. It also introduced a version of its namesake soda sweetened with a mix of stevia and sugar in Argentina, with plans to eventually introduce the drink elsewhere. For the quarter ended March 28, net income fell to $1.62 billion, or 36 cents a share. That compares with net income of $1.77 billion, or 39 cents a share a year ago.     Small cap Sodastream International Ltd (NASDAQ: SODA), an Israeli based developer, manufacturer and marketer of�home beverage carbonation systems, has attracted its share of hype over both its products and its stock, but could other small cap water stocks like Primo Water Corporation (NASDAQ: PRMW), Puresafe Water Systems Inc (OTCMKTS: PSWS) and Alkaline Water Company Inc (OTCBB: WTER) attract a similar following? After all, Sodastream International has managed to create a significant amount of buzz from consumers, investors and even short sellers because it�� the�world's largest manufacturer, distributor and marketer of home carbonation systems as its�brands are sold in over 60,000 retail stores in 45 countries.     The Borsa Istanbul Stock Exchange National 100 Index slid a second day after reaching a record on May 22. Anadolu Efes (AEFES) sank the most since September 2011. Otokar Otomotiv ve Savunma Sanayi AS, a Turkish producer of civilian and military vehicles, rose to an all-time high after Hurriyet Daily News reported the company could sell tanks to Saudi Arabia.
